Africa continues to impress the rest of the world with the way it is handling the situation of the Corona Virus. So far,the infection cases in most of the African countries are way below the 10,000 mark with South Africa being the country with the most cases at about 73,000.
Initially,it was feared that the fatal virus would sweep breathtaking numbers of people in the continent due to poor health systems in most of the countries. This lead to initiative from people such as Bill Gates who recommend an early introduction of COVID-19 vaccine in the continent although his efforts were futile.
Tanzania is among the few country's who have declared victory over the virus across the world. Many a times,Tanzania president John Magufuli has declared that the disease is just a mere could which is treatable using natural herbs. Magufuli has severally declared that only a few infection cases are remaining in the country.
On Tuesday 16th of June, the president addressed the last sitting of Tanzania parliament before dissolving it to allow the commencement of political campaigns as the next general elections approaches. While addressing the MPs and the nation at large,Magufuli declared that the situation of the Corona Virus in the country was improving as a result of the decrease of COVID-19 infections in the country.
"Kutokana na mwendendo wa Corona kuendelea kuwa mzuri, Corona imepungua sana,"asserted Magufuli. This loosely translates to[Due to the good development of Corona,Corona has reduced so much]
Due to the improved situation,Magufuli ordered for the reopening all schools in the country by 29th of June. Magufuli however warned Tanzanians to continue taking caution due to COVID-19.
Thousands of people across the country have gathered for Black Lives Matters (BLM) protests, as demonstrations continue for the fourth weekend in the row. Scores of protesters assembled at Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park, while a separate group marched from Vauxhall en route to Parliament Square. In Guernsey, as the island lifts social distancing measures, hundreds attended protests in honour of George Floyd, whose death sparked international outrage. Glasgow’s Say No to Racism event, which was twinned with World Refugee Day, was largely peaceful, despite a large police presence on George Square and minor scuffles. Elsewhere, in Scotland a protest was held at the statue of Henry Dundas, who delayed the abolition of the slave trade, at St Andrew Square, Edinburgh. Peaceful protests have similarly been held in Manchester and Birmingham this weekend.
